About Us

Over 60 years in the business.

Clock repair is in our DNA. No, really. Father Fred Bartholomew has trained with some of the best horologists in the world over his 50+ year career. Son Logan Bartholomew has been working on clocks since he was tall enough to reach the desk (which has been a very long time). So when we say you’re working with real clock repairmen, what we mean is, it’s been passed down from generations before them.

This isn’t our first Rodeo.

Houston Clock Repair isn’t a one-trick pony. The father/son team behind the scenes is also the creator of the highest-rated shop in Central Texas, Austin Clock Repair. We never expected to get as many calls as we did from Houston, but the pieces we’ve seen in this area meant we had to expand. Y’all have some beautiful clocks, Houston!

We’re about you.

From the moment you call, you’ll only ever deal with a knowledgeable horologist. HCR doesn’t outsource any calls, pickups, delivery, etc. The person you meet is the same person who will be working on your clock should you need repairs. Plus, a better-than-standard warranty, no bull pricing, and in-home service means we are committed to your happiness every step of the way.

Meet the Team

When you grow up with a horologist as a father, you’re bound to pick up a thing or two. Logan has been repairing clocks since he was a kid. First helping dad market the business by handing out flyers (this was long before the internet), to later holding things as they were put back together. He was in his teens when he repaired his first clock on his own.

Over the years, he saw how different the market changed. The horologists he’d grown up around - peers, uncles, and even dad himself - were aging. But the younger generation didn’t seem to be all that interested in picking up the art. Customer service seemed to be less of a concern for the earlier generation and out went the in-home service calls and complementary pickup and dropoff for serious repairs. So when the time came to choose a career, it was a no-brainer.

Now, 30+ years after handing out flyers, Logan is sought after by some of the most discerning of collectors to repair their heirlooms, and for good reason. Though he has repaired thousands of clocks over the years, his real badge of honor is having restored clocks deemed “impossible” to fix over a dozen times.

You might say he enjoys a challenge.

“After two unsuccessful tries by an old brick and mortar shop, these guys fixed my clock. They know what they are doing. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, but it seems unlikely, since I was told this repair would keep the clock going for several decades.”

Fred Bartholomew, like so many family members before him, fell into clock repair as the family business. But he wasn’t satisfied taking the knowledge in without learning the why. So in 1971, he joined Seth Thomas to learn from some of the greats. After working with the “big guys”, he joined on as an associate for Raymond Weil, one of the foremost experts in Swiss horology. From here, he learned how to not only restore clocks, but to use his skills to make them run even better than they were when manufactured (after all, nothing is made quite like it used to be).

Now Fred takes on his own apprentices and was recently featured in Detroit Free Press for his amazing work with a local junior horologist.

In addition to being a partner in Houston Clock Repair and Austin Clock Repair, he also runs his own business for select clientele and even lends an ear to son Frederick Bartholomew’s Promenade Clocks in Dallas.

“When I unpacked my 25 year old cuckoo, the chains were off their tracks and the clock wasn’t working properly. I called to arrange repairs, but instead the proprietor talked me through fixing it myself. Now that’s incredible service!”

Let’s talk clocks.
